Ian Smith and the Secret To Happiness

The Danbury, Connecticut, News-Times recently published an article that's equal parts profile of the celebrity doctor, Ian Smith, author of the book Happy: Simple Steps to Get the Most Out of Life -- and survey of other recent books about happiness.

I wasn't aware of Smith, who hosts VH1's Celebrity Fit Club, and while the article doesn't tell you much about the ins and outs of his work, I want to learn more. The piece also makes the connection between the recent wave of happiness research and the work of Martin Seligman, author of Learned Optimism and Authentic Happiness.

Self-Help Gifts Giveaway

If you'd like to dip your toe into the world of grassroots human potential resources, Carolyn Hansen and Joe Rubino's Self Help Gifts Giveaway Event, which runs through July 3, is a doozy. The offer includes materials from almost 500 people working in human potential, materials valued at almost $17,000. That's to be taken with a grain of salt because people try to sell 15-page PDFs for $29, but regardless, it's a lot of stuff.

The materials touch on topics such as personal finance, success, confidence, purpose, energy, hypnosis, self-promotion, sleep, mind mapping, coaching, and other subjects. It's a ton of stuff. I don't see a lot of big names in there, but again, it's a ton of stuff.

Deepak Chopra and Michio Kaku

There was a great interview transcript featuring Deepak Chopra and Michio Kaku on BeliefNet yesterday. The conversation, taken from a Sirius XM broadcast last September, focuses on the unified field theory, consciousness, and Kaku's book Physics of the Impossible.

It's a relatively lengthy read and well worth spending some time with.
