For the last few days, I've been exploring Noah St. John's Power Habits System, a 10-session course on changing unconscious habits. The system is a relatively science-light approach to behavioral change—he refers to research occasionally but doesn't really cite any—but I'm finding it enjoyable and useful regardless.
I've also read the free excerpt of his book The Book of Afformations: Discovering the Missing Piece to Abundant Health, Wealth, Love, and Happiness, which suggests that instead of using affirmations—statements—you instead ask yourself empowering questions, which could lead to more productive problem-solving. It's not a bad idea.
Inspired by my reading and listening, last night I moved my alarm clock from beside my bed across the room on top of a dresser. You know what? Instead of hitting snooze first thing this morning and dozing for another hour—my usual practice—I had to get up to turn the thing off. And voila: I was up at 6 a.m., something I've been wanting to start doing.
Have any EmpowerMentors used St. John's Afformations? What's your experience been?

Ian Smith and the Secret To Happiness
The Danbury, Connecticut, News-Times recently published an article that's equal parts profile of the celebrity doctor, Ian Smith, author of the book Happy: Simple Steps to Get the Most Out of Life -- and survey of other recent books about happiness.
I wasn't aware of Smith, who hosts VH1's Celebrity Fit Club, and while the article doesn't tell you much about the ins and outs of his work, I want to learn more. The piece also makes the connection between the recent wave of happiness research and the work of Martin Seligman, author of Learned Optimism and Authentic Happiness.

Self-Help Gifts Giveaway
If you'd like to dip your toe into the world of grassroots human potential resources, Carolyn Hansen and Joe Rubino's Self Help Gifts Giveaway Event, which runs through July 3, is a doozy. The offer includes materials from almost 500 people working in human potential, materials valued at almost $17,000. That's to be taken with a grain of salt because people try to sell 15-page PDFs for $29, but regardless, it's a lot of stuff.
The materials touch on topics such as personal finance, success, confidence, purpose, energy, hypnosis, self-promotion, sleep, mind mapping, coaching, and other subjects. It's a ton of stuff. I don't see a lot of big names in there, but again, it's a ton of stuff.

Deepak Chopra and Michio Kaku
There was a great interview transcript featuring Deepak Chopra and Michio Kaku on BeliefNet yesterday. The conversation, taken from a Sirius XM broadcast last September, focuses on the unified field theory, consciousness, and Kaku's book Physics of the Impossible.
It's a relatively lengthy read and well worth spending some time with.

Reality TV with Tony Robbins
The Hollywood Reporter features an interview with Tony Robbins about his forthcoming TV show Breakthrough with Tony Robbins.
In it, he talks about his goals for the show, why he doesn't write books any more, what human potential leaders he respects, and how he's mellowed somewhat with age. It's a good read—and the show sounds promising, as well! Real reality TV.

Free Web Event on Astral Projection
At 6 p.m. PT, Thursday, June 17—that's in two days—clinical hypnotherapist Steve G. Jones is offering a free Web event on astral projection. Over the course of an hour, Jones will share a seven-part approach to self-hypnosis and astral projection. Registrants will also receive a series of emails addressing limiting beliefs that need to be broken.
I'm not that familiar with astral projection but understand it as a form of creative visualization and self-hypnosis. Looking forward to learning more!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wayne Dyer has been charged with plagiarism in a court action filed in Los Angeles. Allegedly, Dyer used about 200 lines of text verbatim.
Victoria Osteen Gets Behind Childhood Literacy
Victoria Osteen, wife of Joel Osteen and co-pastor of Lakewood Church, has kicked off a literacy program sponsored by Simon & Schuster to support summer reading.
Part of it might be a shill for her children's books, such as Unexpected Treasures, but the nonprofit First Book is involved, so it can't be all bad.
As part of the effort, thousands of dollars worth of books will be donated within the Houston area.

Mindfulness at Work
There's a good article in the Vancouver Sun today about the growing need for mindfulness -- and how meditation is increasingly accepted by academics and researchers. The article also touches on the use of meditation at large companies such as General Mills. Interesting stuff, and worth a quick read.

The folks behind Evolution Ezine are currently offering readers a special discount on the Revolutioniz program, which promises to help seekers harness the hidden laws of the universe, understand the premises of your own power, as well as money, and improve your relationships. The offer—a mere $20—also includes almost 20 free bonuses. I'm not overly familiar with the work of Nicholas P. Kidd and Henk J.M. Schram, but at $20, all of the materials offered seem a steal.
